Paula MP. en EE.UU. - Capítulo 2 - Miedo
MIEDO.

FEAR.
A lot of y’all (as we say in Louisiana) will be thinking the reason why for that word. Others will be creating images in their heads, memories, moments…
I thought this was a good way of starting this chapter, because in this type of experiences, that word is very important; therefore, I will keep explaining what is going on my mind.
Put a bunch of clothes in two suitcases and a bag. Take two planes. Be 4,755 miles away from your family and friends for a year. Without seeing them closer than beyond a screen once a week maximum.
I have been for a month and nine days now in a country which is not mine, with a family that is not mine, in a high school that does not look like my spanish one and meeting strangers that I spect to call friends in a future. I supose that know the word fear starts to make sense.
I remember that, a few months ago, my dad asked me a question that I answer quickly but I thought about for a long time: “Are you scared?.” It can seem an easy question. Why would I be scared?. My answer was: “Yes, I do.” Because even if we are really strong, even if we feel very brave by living this experience, there will always be a “what if…” in our minds that will make us think about everything. And that is the clue. It is fine to feel fear in this type of situations, because that shows that you are conscious that this is being real, that it is not part of your imagination, that there are risks; but also that you are going to do it anyways because that is what you really want to do.
I am living in my own dream with my eyes wide open not to lose details.
I was scared and I used that fear to face the world; to cross an ocean and reach my goals; to love a family who has just hosted me by receiving a cultural exchange and a really enthusiastic blonde girl; to make friends and improve her English. To open her mind and learn from herself and the others.
Now, my only fear is not being able to go through the door every time I eat, something that I would have liked to know a few months ago so that I would have been able to lose some pounds before coming, or I would have bought an extra stomach.
With this beautiful thought I leave. See you in the next chapter.
